Xmas Rows!  Brexmas Rows!

It doesn’t seem to go away! The Brexit uncertainty continues.  This month Parliament will vote on Teresa May’s Brexit deal.  Many keen Brexiteers don’t feel it goes far enough, whilst those who still wish us to remain in the EU see it as going too far!

There are those still hoping for another Referendum, a Peoples Vote.  Some believe that Mrs May might be forced to resign.  That could lead to another Conservative becoming Prime Minister or a General Election!

Meanwhile the clock is ticking towards the end of March when the UK is due to leave the EU.

Some local people for example those who work for University of Southampton can now apply for Settled Status.  One problem is that you need an Android phone to do so. EU Welcome continues to monitor the situation and hopes to be able to offer help if/when Settled Status applications are available to everyone.

This Summer I took a holiday in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and heard about a row that had taken place between the citiies of Tallinn and Riga as to who had the first Christmas tree!   Both claimed that honour. The Mayors of the two cities were asked to resolve the dispute.   They came up with this compromise.  Tallinn had the first Xmas tree in the 15th century BUT Riga had the first decorated Xmas tree. I gather this kept everyone happy..

If only Brexit was that simple to resolve!

Christmas can be a stressful time with family conflicts and financial challenges.

Let’s focus though on its message of light and hope coming into a dark world and peace and good will to ALL people…..even those who disagree with us!

Hate Crime.  Don’t Suffer in Silence

We are pleased to announce that we have been asked to become a Third Party Reporting Centre for Hate Crime.  This means when things go wrong, we can help.

Hate crimes and hate incidents are offences and incidents that target a person’s race/nationality; ethnicity; disability; sexual orientation; faith/religion or gender identity. They are motivated by hostility or prejudice and can have a devastating impact on victims, their family, friends and or the community.

If you are subject to anything like this, you can, of course contact the police directly, or you can report it in this way by clicking on

https://beta.met.police.uk/true-vision-report-hate-crime/

You can give as much or as little detail as you wish and can remain anonymous if you want.  Alternatively contact us at EU Welcome and we will be delighted to help you in any way we can.
