September 2017

It’s September!   Happy New Year
After the Summer September always feels to me like a new start!   There are certainly plenty of new initiatives at EU Welcome. So Happy New Year!
Firstly we’re please to announce that from 4 September our Monday advice drop in at CLEAR in James Street will begin an hour earlier at 11.30am and will last for 3 hours!  We will continue to be at Two Saints Day Centre on Monday mornings.
We are also pleased to say that thanks to our Bulgarian volunteer Dessy we can now run a monthly Saturday session in Bulgarian.   Her speciality is jobs and careers but she will also sign post clients with other issues. Here are full details in Bulgarian!Както съм поствала и преди, аз съм доброволец за организация, наречена EU Welcome, като целта ми е да помогна, колкото мога, на тези от вас които си търсят работа. Мога да бъда полезна в следните области:
– CVs, covering letters & job applications – насоки за написване,както и проверка
– подготовка за интервюта за работа, както и организирането на така наречените mock interviews
– LinkedIn & Digital identity
In October we have even more happening beginning with a workshop on mental health and psycotherapy delivered in Polish  The presentation will be given by Marta, an EU Welcome volunteer who is fully trained professional counsellor in the UK.  We will use the Polish language this time, but would be willing to do further such workshops in English if requested.   Here are full details in English and Polish

That will be followed on 19 October by a ‘Writers’ Seminar’  This is being held in partnership with Salisbury Playhouse but will take place in Southampton.  If you are interested in creative writing in English or your own first language, this is for you.  Details later! We are also planning some open ‘philosophical’ discussions. In France they have ‘café philo’ and we’ve been approached by some Portuguese friends who’d like to try something similar here.  They will be in English and open to all.

A new professional theatre is opening near Guildhall Square and YOU could be in the first production. Read on…….Make history by being in the first ever show at NST City!

You never get a second chance to make a first impression – so NST’s first major production in their new venue will be a world premiere, with an amazing Southampton story at its heart, written by an award winning playwright, and designed by a company whose previous work includes the London Olympic Games. Intrigued?

They are recruiting a small but vital community company to be an integral part of this exciting new production, working closely with their creative team and professional cast, whilst gaining insight into professional theatre along the way.
You don’t need any previous theatre or drama skills, although the ability to be able to move fairly well, remember movement, and sing to a reasonable standard is desirable.
‘We would like our community company to fully represent Southampton’s diverse residents, so the only condition is that you need to be 16 years or older. Interested? If you have the enthusiasm and willingness to turn up regularly to rehearsals and be part of the team, we’d love you to get in touch.’
Audition workshops will be held on Saturday 23 September. For further details and to sign up to audition, please contact Tracey Cruickshank:

Financially EU Welcome needs to look for funding.  We are £20K short for the coming year!  Every little helps!
